Now broadband deals

The minimum contract length for the standard Now Super Fibre plan is 12 months but customers can pay a larger set up fee (£60) more and get the flexibility of no-contract superfast broadband.

The monthly price paid by customers on 12-month and 1-month deals is exactly the same, something that sets the Now Super Fibre plan apart from many other rolling deals.

While the £65 upfront fee can be off-putting, it does offer those in short-term accommodation and student houses along with those who simply don't want a long-term deal more control over their broadband package.

At current pricing, it's around the cost of three months of Now Super Fibre, so those in six-month uncertain tenancies, for example, could save money compared to cancelling their broadband contract early and incurring early termination fees.

Combining broadband and TV

Now Super Fibre can be taken alongside Now TV Memberships, with discounts often available for taking the two services together.

Now offers three types of rolling TV membership:

  • Now Entertainment Membership (usually £9.99 per month)
  • Now Cinema Membership (usually £9.99 per month)
  • Now Sports Membership (usually £33.99 per month)

There's also a Sports Day Membership allowing access to sports content for 24 hours. That isn't usually included in any Now broadband bundle deals because of its short-term nature.

All Now TV content is derived from their parent company Sky, so the entertainment channels include the likes of Sky Max and Sky Atlantic while Sky Cinema and Sky Sports provide the content for those memberships.

So, customers signing up to Now Super Fibre can add a TV membership to their broadband plan for a more comprehensive entertainment bundle.

Discount deals will vary, meaning the best way to keep track of what's available is to check on our broadband and TV comparison page or check the special offer table at the top of this review.

Home phone

Now Super Fibre comes with inclusive line rental and anytime calls for the full 12 months of the contract. In the case of the 1-month contract plan, these anytime calls are taken on a rolling basis, so those customers can still benefit too.

The inclusive calls from Now cover calls to both UK landlines and mobiles. This isn't always the case with inclusive call plans these days, so Now Super Fibre has a definite edge on competitors there.

Just be aware that, when it comes time to recontract, the anytime calls offer may not still be available or may have altered. In addition, those on rolling contracts have no protection against decisions by Now to change the package details in this way, so keep an eye on that.

Even so, the fact that Now Super Fibre has inclusive anytime calls is a big bonus and it's a major selling point for the package.

How does it compare?

Now Super Fibre is at the budget end of the superfast broadband spectrum.

It's a crowded marketplace and there are various other providers also offering no-frills broadband around the 63Mb to 67Mb range.

Here is Now alongside some of their cheapest rivals:

Compare broadband deals

As we can see, Now Super Fibre may not always be the absolute cheapest available, but the pricing for the package is highly competitive and they have other things going for them too.

Customers signing up to Now not only get the inclusive anytime calls (nothing similar is offered by the other providers listed here), but the minimum term contract is also shorter, especially when we consider the 24-month contract offered by Vodafone.

Many customers are wary of signing up to longer term deals and so Now Super Fibre may be a better option for them, even if it can be a few pounds more per month.

If we look at 1-month rolling broadband deals, only Direct Save Telecom offer something comparable to Now that's widely available:

PackageBroadbandMonthly priceUpfront priceContract term

As we can see, while Now Super Fibre costs more upfront for a rolling deal, the monthly costs for Direct Save Telecom are almost double, so Now is a more economical option after just a couple of months.

Speed

Now Super Fibre promises average download speeds of 63Mb and upload speeds of 19Mb.

This is delivered via the Openreach superfast network which uses cable up to the street cabinet and then copper from the cabinet to the house.

While this type of technology isn't the fastest available, it provides the type of superfast speeds the Now Super Fibre plan offers without difficulty.

We don't have specific testing data available for the Now Super Fibre package, but we do have independent Ofcom data available for the Sky 59Mb package. Since Sky is the parent company of Now and the networks run on the same infrastructure, this can give us an idea of how the service might perform.

Here is the most recent speed update on the Sky 59Mb plan:

Ofcom average speeds, published October 2022
Advertised average speedOver 24hrsPeak time
(8-10pm weekdays)
Sky59Mb64.30Mb62.01Mb
Sky145Mb150.22Mb150.46Mb

Although Sky doesn't hit the heights promised in this panellist data, that isn't unusual in Ofcom search for fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) connections.

Providers like Now and Sky must advertise their broadband speeds based on what 50% of their customers can receive at peak time. Under this methodology, some may get faster speeds and some may have slower connections.

Reliability

Now Super Fibre runs on the FTTC broadband network as we've already mentioned. That means it might not be as reliable as full fibre broadband packages.

This is because the last part of the connection is delivered over copper lines and these have higher latency which means it can take longer for the network to action a request. While this is measured in milliseconds (ms) and many customers won't notice a delay, those who have been used to full fibre broadband might.

That said, part-fibre deals like Now Super Fibre are superior to full copper deals and they offer lower latency and lower disconnection rates than the older copper technology, so the plan will be sufficient for most households.

Router

Customers signing up to Now Super Fibre will get the Now Hub Two router with their package.

The Now Hub Two is a repacked version of a Sky router and is designed to handle the 63Mb speeds offered by the Now Super Fibre broadband package.

It features:

  • Dual band technology
  • Smart channel selection
  • 2 x Ethernet ports
  • 5 antennae

Overall, the Hub Two is a good all-round router that will provide a good wi-fi signal in average sized homes.

Verdict: is Now Super Fibre any good?

Now Super Fibre is the best package available from Now and it provides budget-friendly superfast fibre broadband to households across the UK.

Not only is Now Super Fibre cheap, it also comes with inclusive anytime calls which is a major rarity when searching for broadband deals these days, plus the option to take a 1-month rolling deal is also a great option for those who don't like long-term commitment.

Thanks to the discounts regularly available, it's possible to get a good deal when adding Now TV memberships to a broadband deal too, so if customers are interested in those services, it's worth checking out the special offers currently available.

Overall, Now Super Fibre is a budget broadband deal with some excellent features and options. It doesn't have many bells and whistles, but it's simple broadband on a 12-month or 1-month contract, and that will appeal to many customers who just want a straightforward broadband deal.
